BA -- 16 Million People
Buenos Aires is a huge city – some 16 million people – and is the largest city in Argentina. Cordoba, after which the car with an interior of fine corinthian leather was named, comes in second with under 2 million. And, before anyone asks, Ricardo Montalban is from Mexico, not Argentina.
Outside of Buenos Aires, though, Argentina is largely agricultural and has a history rivaling the western US in this regard. They are significant producers of the worlds soy beans, corn and wheat, among other things. This diversity between the urban city and rural countryside sometimes has led to political conflicts between the various interests similar to the controversies between the US coasts and the big fly-over region in the middle.
Land grants going back to the Spanish Crown lie at the root of much of this discord. Some 4% of their population own 98% of the land, which resulted in a significantly lopsided disposition of wealth in the country.
